While RMS has always been conscientious of our environment it's now time to take action to a new level. We have joining forces with Virigina Green, Greener Results and several other entities in town that are already doing their part to leave a positive impact on the earth and for our children when we are gone.

RMS' Green Goals - these practices are in use and others will be implemented in our 2011 triathlons:
  • Provide environmental education to participants
  • 100% online registration
  • Eliminate plastic bags for use as race packets
  • Reduce paper in packets and eliminate packets with a B.Y.O.B. (bag) policy 
  • Eliminate plastic bottles & cans at race site ( Powerade Play is new, not available in a mix yet)
  • Provide post-race food purchased at local organic producers
  • Arrange for composting of food and other compostables
  • Minimize disposable food service products by using disposable food service items that are made with recycled content
  • Purchase of shirts and awards locally
  • Use of recycle bins
  • Use of compost bins
  • Use of environmentally-friendly portable restrooms
  • Encourage the use of carpooling to triathlons and other events
  • Purchase/use paper products with 30% or higher recycled content
  • Research of alternative, sustainable energy source to power computers, PA system and moonbounce
  • Re-use of signage at RMS' triathlons/events
  • Reduce ordering of latex swim caps
  • Manufacture a finish tower that is self efficient without use of gas generator
  • Offer clothing and/or shoe recycling/reuse program for charity organizations
